Even though I loved Cate Blanchett’s pared down nude and pastel make up with delicately flushed cheeks (and that killer Armani Prive gown) as she received her statue, the Oscars are not the place you go to for innovative and experimental beauty looks.
If you want beauty forward or experimental looks go to the Grammy’s and hope Lady Gaga and Madonna are having good make up days 🙂
The Oscars are more conservative veering between two looks in the last ten years : glamourous retro red lips or pretty nude lips.
This year was no different though the sea of nude lips with only a smattering of red and one -yes, I just saw one plum lip made this a ‘nude’ year as far as lips are concerned.
Go to http://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/oscars-2014-red-carpet/ to see all the looks .
Angelina Jolie who does the red lip perfectly stayed with a brown smoky eye and glossy nude lip and an Eli Saab dress.
Ditto Penenlope Cruz.
Jennifer Lawrence wore a fab Dior red dress but her glossy nude lip-yes, yet another nude and heavy bronzer didn’t do her justice. I wish she had stuck to a classic red lip or been fresher with an orange lip .
Meryl Streep had a nude- brown lip too.
Julia wore Givenchy and nude lips.
Ellen de Generes did a matte pink-nude lip.
Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen, had dark smokey eyes, plum nails and yes, nude lips.
Lupita Nyong’o proved she is a Prada and a Clarins lip balm girl – that’s what she pulled out of her purse and handed over to host Ellen de Generes. And that dress was so fresh and young!
If you want get a variation of that Oscar look try Bobbi Brown’s wonderful lip wardrobe kit. I’ve had it for sometime and thought this was a good time to pull it out and use it. Three shades of pale though not totally nude. Enjoy.
