Vogue Beauty Awards 2014: Glamour meets Gorgeousness

VBA HALLVogue upped the ante at this year’s Beauty Awards as far as the glamour and Bollywood quotient was concerned .

It wasn’t just the list of invitees but the red carpet aura that infused the proceedings made it very Vogue.

At the end of the day every woman wants to feel more beautiful, transformed and definitely more glamorous with the products and services that are offered or written about.

This is something all of us deeply entrenched in the beauty industry often forget (I am as guilty) as we get excited about new products and new launches and fascinated by ingredient stories, new peptide chains and enzymes.

I am a bit biased  but in my opinion Vogue struck the right balance between Bollywood’s most Beautiful and Beauty’s most Influential.

Over 2000 products were sniffed, tried, tested, sprayed on and scrutinized by a formidable jury for the final list and over 15 industry and Bollywood professionals were honoured for their contribution and connection with the beauty industry.

I have the entire product list at the bottom of the blog so please see it as it is a good beauty wish list to have.

I was happy to see some of my favouirte brands and products including Hungarian brand Omorovicza’s Gold drops, Kama Ayurveda’s Kumkumadi range, Kerastase’s K mousse, Benefit’s Girl meets Pearl and an old favourite Chanel’s Sublimage on the list.

The lipstick category, one I am closely involved with, was a bit disappointing as this year has seen some really good textures and edgy shades and some revamping of cult shades but I leave you to decide.

Check out the new fragrance launch winners as well as the hair category especially girls with curls!

I was happy to cheer for Subhash Vagal’s ‘Best Make up artist’ award. Subbu is known for the luminosity her creates on skin and that lit within skin is his signature trademark. I have seen him at work and he spends a lot of time in skin prep and not so much in caking and coverage. In the age of instagrams this is the recipe for the perfect photo ready skin.

Benefit’s Jean and Jane Ford were honoured for their contribution to the beauty industry.

Benefit brings its Brow bars to India soon. I have said earlier this is a bit like taking coals to Newcastle because we are the global threading champs or so we’d like to believe but this may change the retail and service space.

Ramona Braganza was recognized as ‘Fitness expert’. She has moved to India recently after a successful stint as an A list Hollywood trainer. She looks incredibly fit and toned!

Dr Abhijit Desai who has won a Vogue Award earlier was awarded ‘Skin Expert’. He is one of those sane voices in an increasingly Botoxed world. I must say some familiar faces looked a wee bit changed since I last met them –you know what I mean 🙂

The fun part about an event like this is that the stars and star jury members – see jury member Shilpa Shetty in Monisha Jaisngh below, are very relaxed and accessible.

I loved actor Parineeti Chopra’s charming and disarming speech as she received her ‘Flawless face’ award. She looked incredibly chic in Dior .

Twinkle Khanna wearing DVF made a witty and graceful acceptance speech for her ‘Timeless Beauty’ award.

Siddhartha Malhotra in Armani, could have made a better speech as the ‘Most Beautiful man’ awardee but the collective swooning in the Taj Land’s End ballroom when his award was announced suggests that no one else thought his speech mattered.

Kangana Ranaut wearing Namrata Joshipura, won the ‘Most Beautiful Face’ award and seems really happy with this win .
