Just back from the Jaipur LIt fest ..the tenth year of the fest . I have been there a couple of times earlier. It was as expected incredibly crowded -25 lakh footfalls or some such huge number . But as usual it was incredibly well managed and superbly coordinated. For me attending Jaipur Bookmark a day ahead of the festival was quite a rewarding experience. Bookmark is much smaller and is for writers, publishers, booksellers and agents. I am neither though as we all know a secret writer lurks deep down in all of us . As Chitra Diwakurni Bannerjee said in her session ” I wrote as a personal reaction to not forgetting ”
Too much to process but was happy to hear David Hare, Paul Beatty, Gulzar, Anna Waldman among others. Stayed at the Ibis near the civil lines metro which is a budget chain and I got a good deal . There are some glitches-the location while central could be better as a one way makes it a bit tedious, room cleanliness may need a nudge but the service is very prompt and the team is very helpful which when you are a solo traveller is a definite plus . Good breakfast -also a plus point.
