BB creams and CC creams -what you need to know

bb vs cc sephora

Thank you Sepphora for this simple graphic that sheds light on what we have been grappling with as a slew of BB creams, CC creams, tinted moisturizers and foundations hit the shelves this season.

Is there a case for having both BB creams and CC creams on your dressing table ?
Not really in my opinion.

CC creams take care of the ‘lack -of- shades’ issue that BB creams have. They have SPF protection and hydration.

They also have one difference – optical diffusers that let you skin look even and balanced.Which means no oily shine – a drawback of some of the BB creams I have tried.

Pick your CC cream shade -Touch up with translucent powder and you are good to go.

(I did review on BB creams in an earlier post in case you want to look at it.)

But back to CC creams .

I finally found the one I can recommend which is Clinique’s moisture surge CC cream.

clinique cc redone

It has a range of shades- fair, very fair, light, light medium, tan, dark tan.

I have the light medium but if you want to build up take one shade lighter.

It goes on surprisingly smoothly and blends in well. The coverage is never going to be that of a foundation but it does give the skin a healthy even glow.

Before opting for Clinique I tried Bobbi Brown ( Too thick for me ) Smashbox (too dry) Philip Thomas Roth ( Fabulous texture but wrong shade range for me ).

I have heard very good reviews on Chanel’s CC cream and am waiting to try local brand Lakme’s version.

If you have tried them let me know .

Ps if you re looking for heavy coverage don’t look at CC creams. Only spray foundations will do the trick. Dior and Sepphora’s own brand are very good.
Invest in an angled brush or make up air spray gun otherwise. Some make up artists swear by finger blending because the heat of fingers warms up skin and helps spread foundation more evenly but you have to very skilled for that.

I love checking out good base makeup and BB creams. Haven’t yet tried a CC cream yet. Good recommendation. I like Clinique’s moisture surge range.
