What is Cardio Pilates and why do you recommend it for women ?

Pilates is a low impact form of exercise concentrated on strengthening and stabilising the body with its primary point of focus being building core strength and posture alignment. Combining Pilates with a high power cardio routine works wonders for those looking for weight loss and inch loss as a physical goal, both men and women equally can benefit from this combination.

Personal Epiphany : “Losing twenty kilos and realizing that fitness training was my chosen career path”

HIIT ( High Intensity Training ) is not usually recommended as you grow older because of the impact on knees and risk to the heart – your take ?

Any form of exercise done incorrectly can have its repercussions. I also believe individuals of any age can practice any form of exercise with the right kind of monitoring and guidance. In fact, HIIT is highly beneficial for cardiovascular and metabolic health.

For a lot of women over 45, the combination of yoga and walking seems to be the easiest to follow – what is your take?

Walking and yoga are definitely beneficial. But in my experience results have been phenomenal when activities like yoga and Pilates are paired with a cardiovascular routine and strength training. In fact, strength training is highly recommended for older women as it increases bone density, thereby, reducing the risk of fractures and broken bones. It also improves joint health and joint stability which, and as a result, can be a women’s best defense against osteoporosis.

“If you are a woman over 45 do NOT exclude weight training from your workout regime ”

Is there a simple fitness discipline you can suggest for women over 45?

● Get Moving ● Start exercising as part of a Beginner programme if you are a newbie and gradually build on strength and stamina ●Do not exclude weight training ● Get your physician’s approval before beginning any physical training routine ● Follow a well balanced nutrition plan to support your workout regime ● Make sure you’re regularly consuming your required dietary supplements

Diet and nutrition tips ?

I always recommend a well balanced diet- a good, controlled mix of carbohydrates, fats and
protein. Consult a professional Nutritionist to see what you’re body requires as it’s highly subjective and take your recommended supplements regularly .Control the consumption of any processed foods/beverages. Make Fruits and vegetables your best friend !
